Two Years And Still Going Strong

Two years ago we made a t-shirt about the tamale guy in Chicago. At the same time we were looking for a way to give back to our community. Over a couple of beers at this great little bar in our neighborhood called Sheffield’s in Chicago, Scared Panda was born and we haven’t looked back since. Thank you to all of our amazing supporters, nonprofit partners, friends and family – we couldn’t do it without you!

A New Family Tradition

This year our families started a tradition that we would do the Turkey Day 5k – aka Turkey Trot – in downtown Minneapolis every Thanksgiving morning. Here’s Clint, his mom and sister proudly showing off their MN Burrito tees. What are some of your Holiday traditions?

If you’re anything like me, a few of your t-shirts likely have stains and/or holes. I’m not very crafty, but was inspired when one of our supporters brought her Anchored tee to us at the Hester Street Fair to show us how she repaired a little hole in her shirt with a super cute heart.

WCCO Pandas

Huge news, guys! If you’re in Minnesota tomorrow then check out WCCO’s morning show at 8AM on channel 4. Earlier this week Katie talked with the excellent Matt Brickman and Jamie Yuccas about Scared Panda and our mission in Minnesota. We are still in NYC so we won’t be able to watch the show live, but trust us – we’ve let just about everyone we know in the state of Minnesota about this so they will be watching it for us.

After the segment has aired we will try to get our hands on a video to upload here for you. So, check back later to see what happens.

Hotdish? You Betcha!

On one of our first cold nights in New York a couple of weeks ago, just before we received our Minnesota Burrito shirt, we decided to put my mom’s tator tot hotdish recipe to the test. I’ve always loved hotdish – it reminds me of cozy winter nights with my family – wearing sweats, watching movies and, of course, eating. Some people (cough, Clint, cough) are skeptics so I set out on a mission to change his mind.

I less than one hour, this delicious meal that you see above was ready to be devoured. And devoured we did – sure it’s not super healthy and maybe it doesn’t use the best, most fresh ingredients, but MAN is it good comfort food on a cold night. It brought back a flood of memories and I think I may have turned Clint into a believer, too. Maybe.

Want to try it out yourself? Here’s the recipe – let us know what you think!

1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
4 cups frozen mixed vegetables
1 large (19 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (32 oz) package frozen tator tots

Preheat oven to 375 degrees and spray a 9×13″ glass baking dish with cooking spray. In a large pan, sauté beef and onion until beef is browned. Drain and layer in the prepared pan. Layer frozen veggies on the beef mixture and cover with the soup, carefully spreading with a spatula. Layer tator tots on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes or until casserole is hot and bubbling.

Serve with a piece of bread ‘n butter and enjoy!

The organization trains Stillwater Correctional Facility inmates to refurbish computers donated by local businesses. The computers are then shipped to K-12 schools across the state for a nominal fee.
