Artists & Fleas

The last few weeks have been busy ones here at Scared Panda HQ – aka Apartment #15. With the Holidays coming up we’re busy gift wrapping your orders and trying to squeeze in a few more markets before the year ends. This weekend and the weekend before Thanksgiving we were lucky enough to be part of Artist’s & Fleas in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Not only did we introduce a our fresh batch of kid’s tees in the first market but we made some new friends as well.

Artists & Fleas
Our new friend Serene runs this awesome business under the name Leroy’s Place. As you can see from the picture, she turns right funky old prints you might find in your grandparents house into her own masterpiece.

It wouldn’t be a market in Brooklyn without an in house DJ.

And..We’re Back!

Hester Street FairAfter a two-week hiatus from the Hester Street Fair, we’re back! We’re especially excited because this weekend we’ll be debuting two new NYC-inspired tees (this one and that one).

We always have such a great time at this fair – not only do we love all of the vendors (and food), but we really enjoy meeting our customers in person and getting to you know you a bit. If you find yourself in NYC on Saturday, be sure to stop by and say hi.

Need motivation? We’ll be giving away one of each of our new shirts on Saturday. All you have to do is stop by and give us your name and email address.

Hope to see you there!

Hester Street Fair In Pictures

Yesterday was our first street fair in New York City at the Hester Street Fair on the Lower East Side. Things started out pretty good and held steady through the day. A little bit of a rain came through in the afternoon but all that did was create a party in our tent. We met a lot of really cool people and made some new friends.

For the past couple months my friend and Scared Panda Strategic Consultant, Jay, has suggested that some of our prints would be a hit in kids sizes. Up until now I really didn’t want to get into the kids zone for t-shirts. But, this weekend I met and talked to a bunch of cool parents who “would totally” dig our tees in kids sizes. I’m gonna look into it and will let you know.

Hester Street Fair

Hester Street Fair

This Saturday is our debut at THE Hester Street Fair on the Lower East Side. If you’re in New York Saturday come down, check out some sweet t-shirts, grab some ridiculously awesome food and say “anyong.” We’ll have some of our favorite tees for sale as well as a few fortune cookies. We are gonna be there all day and are really looking forward to being involved in one of the coolest fests in the city.

If you couldn’t tell, I’m totally stoked for our first street festival in NYC. The fair goes from 10-6 and is at the corner of Hester & Essex. So, come out and get a jump start on your summer threads.

Hester Street Fair, located in a beautiful park setting, was once home to New York City’s largest and oldest pushcart markets. Our mission is to sell quality goods and food, but to also create a space that reflects the dynamic energy of the Lower East Side. - Hester Street Fair

With any luck Bethany from Real Housewives of New York shows up and has one of her foodgasms while rocking the DJ Panda T-Shirt.

Andersonville Arts Weekend

Andersonville Arts Weekend

Last weekend we headed down to Pilsen for the kickoff of Chicago Artists Month. I had such a great time meeting local artists, looking at their work and drinking the free wine. It’s great to meet fellow entrepreneurs and hear their stories, share lessons learned and inspirations.

We’re excited to have a similar experience tomorrow at Andersonville Arts Weekend. If you’re around this weekend, I strongly suggest you take some time to explore this fantastic neighborhood (may I suggest Hopleaf for a beer afterward?) and support some very talented local artists.

Bucktown 5K

Last weekend we went to the Bucktown 5K to watch some friends (Matty, Kristy, Julie, Grace) run 3.1 miles. I created this video from 1,036 still images just a few hundred feet before the finish line and set to the Benny Hill theme song.

Did you run Bucktown 5k? See if you can spot yourself in the video, if you can, shoot me a message & I’ll email you the still image of yourself. And don’t worry, there won’t be an annoying watermark like those professionals use, just high resolution awesome.

Scared Panda Gets Some Face Time

A couple of weeks ago Kelly Doherty, a reporter from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, contacted me to see if we were interested in doing a video news story on Scared Panda and our work with Chicago non-profits. The end product is below, you’ll see me talking about the company as well as the artist of the Chaotic Peace t-shirtDanielle Baird and Maritza Martinez of Esperanza Community Services. Get ready for awesometime.

Quirky T-shirts are uniting young entrepreneurs with local artists in the hopes of making a difference in Chicago.  Kelly Doherty shows us how a new company can help you feel good about spicing up your wardrobe.

I couldn’t get the video to embed, but you can watch the full video on Medill’s website here
