Imagery: Retro NYC

Walking around New York City I see a lot of cool things; tons of interesting people, cool little shops around every corner, crazy street art and all the things that inspire us to make t-shirts. These are some of those things.

Chicago Christkindlmarket In Pictures

I’ve lived in Chicago for four years and the little German Christmas village known as the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza is something that both Kate and I look forward to all year. Even though we didn’t hit it up every week like we had planned on doing this year, I was able to take spend some enough time there to take some good snaps that I think sums up what the market is about.

An Afternoon In The Bleachers

This weekend we took a break from designing our new logo and working on our new threads(trust me, they’re on the way) to take in a Cubs game with my sister Bridget who was visiting from ‘sota. View the entire set on Flickr.

Apostrophe Abuse

Apostrophe Abuse, originally uploaded by [clint].

This sign outside Sluggers in Wrigley that welcomes Cub(s) fans has enough misused apostrophes to make the Internet grammar Nazi’s heads explode. Normally, I really don’t pay much attention to grammar mistakes since I mess up this same punctuation at least once a day.

But, the banner is so littered with errors it even caught my eye. Being so obvious that it’s hard to imaging their media intern missing multiple mistakes, I wonder if the apostrophe abuse was intended. Like a way to take some pressure off the Cubs and distract from their horrible season. Sort of like “Hey guys, its cool, we’re not at the top of our game either”. Or maybe it’s poking fun at the Ernie Banks “Let’s Play Two” statue that was missing an apostrophe from 2008?

Foto Foodz: Aloha Eats

Ever since Aloha Eats opened in Lincoln Park I’ve walked past and told myself that I should check it out sometime. Well my friends, that sometime came last Sunday when Kate and I finally did czech it out. From the moment we stepped through the door I knew we were in for some delicious grub.  Kate went with Mahi Mahi and I got the grilled BBQ combo. Peep some snaps below.

Are you sure this is the right address?

Scared Panda friend, Matty, tries to open the front door of Big Monster Toys in the West Loop.

I’ve walked past this door a hundred times and always wondered whats behind it all. Besides being one of the best front doors in the city, it turns out that is actually the door to the design firm Big Monster Toys. BMT creates ideas for toys and games for children and adults. The company licenses its ideas to toy companies who then manufacture and market their designs throughout the world.

Minnesota: Day 1 – Tour de Minneapolis

The plane landed in Minneapolis at 11 AM this morning full of under 16 year-olds, by my eavesdropping I understood they were attending summer camp somewhere in Minnesota. Stepping off the plane and onto the jet-way into the muggy air was like walking face first into wet towel. I made the long journey from the Humphrey terminal through the parking garage and finally to the MSP light rail station, headed towards downtown Minneapolis. On the train I realized that I hadn’t had a Jucy Lucy since moving to Chicago four years ago. I decided today was the day and jumped off the train at 38th street heading west en route to Matt’s Bar to get my hands on their burger filled with cheese and a Premium. But before I got to Matt’s I found myself on the south side of Minneapolis, loading some delicious food into a Baptist church for a funeral while  a Gospel choir rocked a funeral service. When I die, I want to my funeral service to have as much life as this one did.

The Jucy Lucy

I left Matt’s and headed off into the blazing heat and humidity.  I caught a bus downtown, grabbed an ice coffee at Espresso Royale and then walked up Nicollet Mall and through the city to the Guthrie Theater. Inside the Guthrie the temp was a good 20 degrees cooler than the outside rain forest. If you find yourself traveling and want to escape the heat for a bit; step inside a museum or theater. They usually let you see the majority of stuff for free. This way you can cool off and maybe even check out something cool while you’re at it.

Inside the Guthrie there is a room on the 9th floor called the “Yellow Room”. I call it an observation deck with yellow tinted windows. Whatever you call it, it’s pretty cool to see and I’d recommend anyone who visits Minneapolis to check this place out. From the Yellow Room you have a 360 degree view of downtown Minneapolis and the riverfront, all seen through yellow colored glasses. Whenever I travel (OK, I’m from Minnesota so maybe this doesn’t really count as traveling) I like to find something to climb. Like a church steeple, observation deck or whatever, something to give me a birds eye view of the city and the Yellow Room is Minneapolis’ version of that.

After the Yellow Room(you can see all my Yellow Room pictures here) it was on to the Stone Arch Bridge and then through my old hood, The North Loop, to check out the old warehouses and the new Twins stadium, Target Field. By the time I had gotten done with that I was drenched in sweat and ready to meet my old man in the burbs to start our trip to my parents in heart of corn field Minnesota.

So there ya have it, that was my day in Minneapolis. Stayed tuned in the next upcoming days, I’m going to post pictures and other goodies from my week in rural Minnesota. Check out the rest of my pictures from today and my trip in my Flickr set.
