Corned beef in Chicago
Today the temperature reached 62 on the lakefront and I could feel the people of Chicago start to thaw. Short sleeve tees, smiles and bikers all around. March is coming in like friendly lamb riding on the back of a rainbow unicorn. The highest temperature so far this year made me forget that it’s still only March here in the city. March means St. Patrick’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day means corned beef. My favorite corned beef meal, not sandwich mind you, but meal, is at Four Moon Tavern in Roscoe Village. I recently discovered this place last year when my good friend Matty O brought Kate and I there for their annual St. Patrick’s week corned beef and cabbage. He’s been raving about it since the day I met him. There isn’t any information on their website about the special but I think this bar is definitely worth grabbing a Guinness at even if the corned beef special is not happening again this year. However, I cannot think of a reason it would not. Rest assured I will be venturing there early next week or late this week to check it out and report back my findings.
So my friends, I leave you with this question: Where is your favorite corned beef in the city? Let us all know and leave your suggestions and recommendations in the comments section!
Happy spring everyone!

Harry Caray Weekend Update
If you were a hot dog and you were starving, would you eat yourself?
Checking in
A week in Boston and a weekend in Cincinnati, man I am beat. These past two weeks have been real busy, but I wanted to let you we’ve been working lots and have some cool designs in the mix for spring. You might call this our spring collection, sure, lets call it that.
We are setting up to create three, yes THREE, new t-shirts in the next month! I won’t give too much away right now, but this is what we are thinking:
1. You voted for it and now you get it. The Chicago thick slice battling it out with a New York thin slice in what I’m thinking will be an epic street fight scene.
2. A womens only v-neck t-shirt inspired by Kate, yoga and her never ending quest to find peace in a busy city.
3. Just in time for the baseball season, a Harry Carry inspired hot dog t-shirt that shows the proper condiments to use and not use on a Chicago hot dog.
That’s all I got for now. Peace out and have a good Monday.
Pizza Fight!
Hey! Look, it’s March 1st everybody! Soon the trees will bud with little bits of green, ice cream parlors will open for the season and there’s even a chance of wearing a t-shirt outside without the usual massive down parka. Other than being one more day closer to spring, today means that our New York vs Chicago Style Pizza poll is closed and we are excited to announce which t-shirt came out on top.
The pizza t-shirt design that received the most votes was Foe! There’s only one real slice, but by a very narrow margin (52% to 48%). Chicagoans love their pizza and judging from the comments posted over the past week, they are not afraid to let us know on which side of the crust they stand.
Thanks to everybody who voted and left a comment. Our next order of business here will be getting a great artist to bring the pizza fight image to life. If you are an artist or designer and have a good idea for the t-shirt please drop us a line here.
And lastly, for those of you who left a comment, we did the drawing for a free Chicago vs. New York style pizza t-shirt and we are excited to announce that Jason Shanley (@cinchel) will be the recipient of the very first t-shirt off the production line.
Congratulations, Jason!
New York vs Chicago Pizza
Three years ago I was living in the wonderful city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. As cool as MPLS is, I had to get out and explore a new city. I had job offers in both Chicago and New York and I had a hard time deciding where my new home away from home would be. To help me decide, I sat down with a friend and created a list of positives and negatives of each city.
A big difference between Chicago and New York is the pizza. Of course, pizza was not the deciding factor, however I remember it being an important line item. Pizza is part of their identities and I love both styles and both cities.
Thin vs. Thick or Thin + Thick. Fight or love? What do you think? Each person is very passionate about their preferred style. One of our next shirts is going to be pizza focused and we can’t decide if we should have a slice of thick and thin crust fighting (perhaps a street fight scene?) or being friends (holding hands walking into the sunset?). So, we’re throwing it out to you. Vote, leave a comment, let us know what you think.
If you leave a comment you will be eligible to win the first Chicago/New York pizza t-shirt. We will do the drawing Monday March 1st and announce the winner Wednesday March 3rd. So spread the word, tweet and tell your friends.
Critical Mass Winter Bike Art Fair Recap
Last Friday night we had the pleasure of attending the Critical Mass Winter Bike Art Fair at New Wave Coffee in Logan Square. The art fair showed off some of the sweet bike art from Chicago bike artists as well as our very own Tall Bike Love t-shirt. The event and coffee shop were awesome. If you have the chance I highly recommend swinging by New Wave for some great roasted beans. We had the chance to chat up the owners, who we found out were big fans of the Tamale Tracker, we also met some really cool people and even sold a t-shirt. Here are some pics from the event and we can’t wait to connect with some of the fine folks we that we met there.

Check us out @ the Critical Mass Art Show Friday
In its 13th year, the Critical Mass Art Show was created to keep the group active through the Winter when the monthly rides were likely to be less frequent.
We’re incredibly excited to announce that one of our newest t-shirts, “Tall Bike Love” by Brian Duffy will be on display at this month-long art festival. Join us at New Wave Coffee (2557 N. Milwaukee) on Friday to help kick of the art fair. Stop by to say hi, chat, browse the local art and support Scared Panda. Shirts will be available for sale Friday night.
RSVP to this event on Facebook and tell your friends.
Hope to see you there!

CHIRP Radio Real Time Playlist Widget
I started listening to the Chicago Independent Radio Project(CHIRP) last week and was immediately hooked. Most of my music comes from listening to The Current in Minnesota and KEXP in Seattle, so I was psyched when I learned that there was a similar music station going on here in Chicago. There is a good playlist on the CHIRP Radio site, however I wanted to have something that would auto refresh on my desktop instead of having to keep a browser window open all the time. So my friends, I created a Yahoo! Widget that updates every sixty seconds and displays the current song playing on CHIRP Radio.
In order to use this widget you must have Yahoo! Widgets installed on your system. Which you can download here. Once you have Yahoo! Widgets installed just download the CHIRP Radio Realtime Playlist Yahoo! Widget – version .1 and open it using Yahoo! Widgets. Simple as that.
Now please keep in mind that this is the first version and I will be updating the look/feel/functionality as the days go on. I just wanted to get this up and out there as soon as possible. Drop me a line if you find any bugs or have any comments.
